All of our Caldecott books were delivered today! Over 100 of them. The Caldecott is awarded annually to the most distinguished American picture books for children. The kids are chomping at the bit to get at 'em. Really... they were just begging to dig through them this afternoon. It was so hard to tell them that they had to wait.
We are blessed to have an incredible librarian. Seriously-I can't sing her praises enough. She lights a fire in our little ones. I know I am biased, but our students love to read more than any others I have ever met. This time she has them fired up over Caldecott books! We are going to pour over these past winners and honorees all afternoon tomorrow. Students will pick their favorite book, their favorite picture from that book, and then recreate it a "distinguished" way.
Next week we will have a "mock Caldecott". We will spend a good chunk of time looking at all of the books that were nominated this year and then vote on our favorite!
